Tools and Materials You’ll Need
Before you begin, you need to gather the tools and materials you’ll need. These include:
- Adjustable wrench
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Replacement parts (if needed)
- Plumber’s tape
Step 1: Turn Off the Water Supply
Before you start any plumbing repair, be sure to turn off the water supply to the faucet. You can turn off the water supply by turning the valve under the sink or by turning off the main water supply valve.
Step 2: Remove the Handle
Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screw that holds the handle in place. Once the screw is removed, you can pull the handle off the faucet.
Step 3: Remove the Cap
Under the handle, there is a cap that covers the faucet cartridge. Use an adjustable wrench to remove the cap by turning it counterclockwise.
Step 4: Remove the Cartridge
Once the cap is removed, you can remove the cartridge by pulling it out of the faucet body. If the cartridge is stuck, use pliers to grip the cartridge and wiggle it back and forth until it comes loose.
Step 5: Inspect the Cartridge
Inspect the cartridge for any damage, such as cracks or wear. If the cartridge is damaged, you need to replace it with a new one.
Step 6: Install the New Cartridge
If you need to replace the cartridge, simply insert the new cartridge into the faucet body. Make sure it is securely in place.
Step 7: Reinstall the Cap
Place the cap back onto the faucet and turn it clockwise to tighten it.
Step 8: Reinstall the Handle
Slide the handle back onto the faucet and tighten the screw with a Phillips head screwdriver.
Step 9: Turn the Water Supply Back On
Turn the water supply back on and test the faucet to ensure it is working properly. If it is still leaking, you may need to replace other parts, such as the O-rings or washers.
Step 10: Replace the O-Rings
If the faucet is still leaking, you may need to replace the O-rings. To do this, remove the cartridge and use a small screwdriver to gently pry out the old O-rings. Replace them with new ones and reassemble the faucet.
Step 11: Replace the Washers
If the faucet is still leaking, you may need to replace the washers. To do this, remove the cartridge and use pliers to pull out the old washers. Replace them with new ones and reassemble the faucet.
Step 12: Tighten Loose Connections
If the faucet is still leaking, you may have loose connections. Use an adjustable wrench to tighten any loose connections.
Step 13: Clean the Aerator
If the water flow is weak or uneven, you may need to clean the aerator. To do this, unscrew the aerator from the end of the faucet and rinse it under running water. If it is clogged, use a toothbrush to clean it.
Step 14: Replace the Aerator
Screw the aerator back onto the end of the faucet and tighten it by hand.
Step 15: Check the Supply Lines
If the faucet is still leaking, check the supply lines for any damage or leaks. If there is a leak, you may need to replace the supply lines.
Step 16: Replace the Supply Lines
If the supply lines are damaged or leaking, turn off the water supply and disconnect the old supply lines. Install the new supply lines and turn the water supply back on.
Step 17: Use Plumber’s Tape
If you have replaced any parts, be sure to use plumber’s tape on any threaded connections to prevent leaks.
Step 18: Test the Faucet
Turn the water supply back on and test the faucet to ensure it is working properly and not leaking.
