How to Install a Franke Undermount Sink: A Step-by-Step Guide

Franke undermount sinks are a popular choice for those looking to upgrade their kitchen sink. They offer a sleek and modern look, while also being practical and easy to clean. However, installing an undermount sink can be a bit intimidating, especially for those who have never done it before. In this article, we will guide you through the process of installing a Franke undermount sink, step-by-step.

Step 1: Measure Your Sink

Before you begin the installation process, you will need to measure your sink to ensure that it will fit properly in the countertop. Measure the length and width of the sink, as well as the depth. Make sure to also measure the space between the sink and the backsplash, as well as the space between the sink and any cabinets.

Step 2: Prepare the Countertop

Once you have your measurements, you can begin preparing the countertop for the sink. Start by cutting a hole in the countertop that is slightly smaller than the sink itself. This will ensure a snug fit.

Next, apply a bead of silicone caulk around the edge of the sink, on the underside. This will help to create a seal between the sink and the countertop, preventing any leaks.

Step 3: Install the Sink

With the silicone caulk in place, you can now install the sink. Carefully lower the sink into the hole in the countertop, making sure that it is centered and level.

Once the sink is in place, use a clamp to hold it in position. This will prevent it from moving while you secure it to the countertop.

Step 4: Secure the Sink

With the sink in position, you can now secure it to the countertop. Use clips to hold the sink in place, screwing them into the underside of the countertop. Make sure to tighten the clips evenly, so that the sink remains level.

Once the sink is secure, you can remove the clamp and wipe away any excess silicone caulk.

Step 5: Install the Drain

With the sink in place, you can now install the drain. Start by applying a bead of plumber’s putty around the underside of the drain flange. This will help to create a seal between the drain and the sink.

Insert the drain flange into the hole in the sink, making sure that it is centered. Then, from below the sink, screw on the rubber gasket, followed by the locknut. Tighten the locknut securely, but be careful not to overtighten it.

Step 6: Connect the Plumbing

With the drain in place, you can now connect the plumbing. Start by connecting the tailpiece to the drain, using a slip joint nut and washer. Make sure to tighten the nut securely, but again, be careful not to overtighten it.

Next, connect the P-trap to the tailpiece and the wall drain, using slip joint nuts and washers. Make sure that the P-trap is level, and tighten the nuts securely.

Step 7: Test for Leaks

With everything in place, you can now test for leaks. Turn on the water and let it run for a few minutes, checking for any leaks around the sink and plumbing connections. If you notice any leaks, tighten the connections as needed.

Congratulations, you have now successfully installed your Franke undermount sink!
